What is Kundli Matching?
Kundli Matching is a Vedic compatibility check between two Janam Kundlis, one for each
partner. Two systems are used across India depending on region.

Ashtakoota: common across North and Central India. Scores compatibility across 8
categories out of 36 points. Also called Kundli Milan, Gun Milan, Patrika Matching,
and related names.

Dashakoota/Porutham: common across South India, especially in Tamil, Telugu, and
Kannada communities. Uses 10 categories with different weightage.
AstroTime defaults to Ashtakoota because it is more widely used and also supports
Porutham as an alternate option.
How the Matching Works

A Few Things Most Tools Do Not Tell You

A perfect 36 is rare and not necessary; many stable marriages sit in the 20-28
range.

A score below 18 is a flag, not a final verdict. 7th house, Navamsa, and dosha
cancellations can alter the outcome.

High Guna score with unresolved Nadi Dosha can be weaker than moderate score
without major doshas.
If your score is below 24 or a dosha is flagged, consult a marriage astrologer
before concluding.
Mangal Dosha (Manglik): When It Actually Matters
Manglik is typically flagged when Mars is in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th
house. In practice, context and cancellations are critical.
- Both partners Manglik: cancellation
- Mars in own signs (Aries/Scorpio): reduced impact
- Mars exalted in Capricorn: reduced impact
- Jupiter aspect on Mars: often neutralizing
- Mars in 12th in friendly signs: reduced severity
- In many traditions, effect weakens after age 28
- Strong 7th lord can offset dosha impact
Clean cancellation is usually treated as resolved by serious Vedic practitioners.
Nadi Dosha: Highest-Weighted Dosha and Its Cancellations
Nadi Dosha appears when both partners share the same Nadi (Aadi, Madhya, or Antya).
Since Nadi carries 8/36 points, it heavily affects the total score.
Cancellations may apply when:
- Same Moon sign but different Nakshatras
- Same Nakshatra but different padas
- Specific gotra and yoga-based cancellation conditions
Nadi Dosha should trigger detailed astrologer review before decision-making.
Bhakoot Dosha: Long-Term Harmony Check
Bhakoot Dosha can appear for certain Moon sign relationships:
- 6/8 (Shadashtak): health/longevity concerns
- 9/5 (Navam-Pancham): children-related concerns
- 12/2 (Dwidwadash): finance-related strain
Cancellations may apply when Moon sign lords are compatible, Graha Maitri is
favorable, or neutralizing yogas exist.

- Venus in woman's chart and Jupiter in man's chart

Name-Based vs Birth-Detail Matching
Name-only matching is a rough indicator. Full date, time, and place-based matching
is far more reliable because every Koota depends on actual planetary and house
placements.
Once Match Is Confirmed: Timing the Wedding
